Top Benefits of Dry Brushing (+ a Simple How-To)

Ever heard of dry brushing or have someone recommend it? It's got many benefits that you may be surprised about so I'm going to be your guide today to dry brushing - otherwise known as lymphatic massage.

Dry brushing is the juice cleanse of the beauty world and the benefits are many. Dry brushing is a combination of exfoliation and massage that involves taking a dry brush and moving it over your body in slow, circular motions two to three times a week. This gives your skin a thorough exfoliation while the pressure helps to stimulate your circulation and lymphatic drainage, which in turn is supposed to help the body eliminate toxins. This new habit is something that you can implement into your morning or evening routine that will have some impactful benefits.

Our bodies are continuously filtering through toxins.  The average woman is exposed to about 500 toxic chemicals throughout each day from your personal care products, to your cleaning products, to the air, to the water, and sometimes in the food that we're eating. Some of those things we can limit but we're still going to get bombarded by some things that we just can't avoid.

Don't want to waste any time? You can jump right in to the step by step and get started, start here

Let’s talk about some of the benefits of dry brushing. One benefit is exfoliation. The bristles of the brush help clean your pores, and smaller pores help with the appearance of your skin. Also, dry brushing will decrease the appearance of your cellulite. Who doesn’t want that? And lastly, dry brushing can stimulate your nerves and give you a natural energy boost.

BENEFIT OF DRY BRUSHING #1: IMMUNE FUNCTION - Have you ever had swollen lymph nodes?  Dry brushing can help stimulate your lymphatic system and help your body filter out the toxins more efficiently.

BENEFIT OF DRY BRUSHING #2: HORMONE BALANCE -  By stimulating that lymph flow, and circulating hormones throughout the body, this can have a profound impact on your hormones - in fact, it’s sometimes recommended by fertility experts for couples trying to conceive.

BENEFIT OF DRY BRUSHING #3: DETOXIFICATION - The waste removal function of our lymphatic system plays a huge role in our body’s ability to detoxify. Because it’s a passive circulatory system, it depends on frequent movement to keep things flowing.

In the past, we activated our lymphatic system by moving all throughout the day – walking long distances, manual labor, etc. Even though I exercise or walk nearly everyday, I still don’t move as much as my ancestors did. For that reason – and because it has some lovely skincare benefits, too – I focus on supporting lymph flow through daily dry brushing.

BENEFIT OF DRY BRUSHING #4: SOFT, SMOOTH SKIN - Dry brushing removes dead skin cells & encourages production of new cells. Did someone say it improves the appearance of cellulite??!!

BENEFIT OF DRY BRUSHING #5: EMOTIONAL GROUNDED-NESS - Believe it or not, dry brushing helps to balance the autonomic nervous system, which supports adrenal function by reducing stress.

Our skin is rich in nerve endings that are connected to our autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS has three modes – sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic branches into ventral (rest and digest) and dorsal (shut down).

Dry brushing engages with our autonomic nervous system by activating the nerve endings in our skin. The effect is similar to massage, which some people find relaxing and others find invigorating.

One last bonus tip- you can add essential oils to your brush for enhanced benefits. There are four oils that I rotate through to get a greater impact with my dry brushing. First is Cypress, this will help with circulation along the skin and help with the appearance of your skin. It’s also calming and assists with circulation. Second is Frankincense, this will help keep your cells healthy. The last two oils are Grapefruit and Metapwr Metabolic Blend, these address the issues of cellulite. Just be careful with these two oils in the summertime or if you are going to be out in the sun later that day because they can be photosensitive. Here is a special dry brushing bundle for 25% off here. 👈🏻
