How to Make a Great Smoothie (+Upgrade it with Superfoods)

Maybe you enjoy a good smoothie from Jamba Juice or your local smoothie place, but how can you make your own for less money? AND, have you ever been to the smoothie place expecting real fruit and all you got was a powder mixture?! What is that even?!

Where do you even start with making something yourself that tastes yummy, but also helps you uplevel your health?

Don't worry - today, I'm going to help you do just that. I'll walk you through exactly what ratios to use and demonstrate how it's done You can get the kids involved. You can even uplevel them with your own stash of superfoods -- maybe they can become a weekly snack regimen for yourself or your family.

DIY Smoothie Ratios (1 serving):

  • Liquid - 1/2 cup (Suggestions: filtered water, almond milk, coconut milk, coconut water)
  • Fruit & Veggies (Fresh or Frozen
    • 60 % Greens (Suggestions: kale, spinach, dandelion, cucumber, swiss chard, beet tops, zucchini) 
    • 40% Fruit (Suggestions: apples, pear, cherries, plums, blueberries, strawberries, mangoes, blackberries, raspberries, avocado)
  • Protein - 1 Tbsp (Suggestions: flax seeds, chia seeds, sprouted watermelon seeds, hemp hearts, nut butter)
  • Fermentation Bonus - 1 Tbsp (Suggestions: unsweetened kefir, kombucha, beet kvass) 
  • Ice (may not need if using frozen fruit/veggies)
You can find these items at Azure Standard or your local farmer's market

Place all the ingredients in a blender in the order listed above for best blending. Blend and enjoy. Change out your choices each time you make a smoothie - our bodies enjoy variety!!
