Don’t you just hate it when you feel completely stuck between two bad options? Like when you run out of deodorant and your only choices seem to be skip it or use one packed with questionable ingredients. Ugh.
Well, no worries! After today, you’ll have TWO fantastic options to save the day when you run out. Bonus? Both are natural, affordable, and actually good for you! They actually passed the "Houston heat at Kids' Camp in the Summer" test. 🥵Let’s dive in.
Option 1: Make Your Own Deodorant
Seriously, this is so easy, you could even have your kids help (hello, life skills!). Here’s how:
What You’ll Need:
1/3 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup baking soda (swap for bentonite clay if you're sensitive to baking soda)
1/4 cup arrowroot powder
Optional: Essential oils (tea tree, frankincense, or a calming blend like Balance)
How to Make It:
Mix the baking soda and arrowroot powder in a bowl.
Add the coconut oil.
Use a fork, pastry cutter, or even electric beaters to blend everything together.
Add 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oils (I love adding a fir oil for freshness and frankincense for its amazing cell-support benefits).
Adjust consistency as needed by adding more coconut oil or baking soda.
And voilà! You’ve got yourself an easy, all-natural deodorant that actually works.
Why Go DIY?
Here’s what’s NOT in this deodorant:
Aluminum: Often used to stop sweat by clogging pores, this has been linked to Alzheimer’s and hormone issues, which increase breast and prostate cancer risks. 🚫
Parabens: Commonly used as preservatives, these can mimic estrogen, disrupting hormones and raising cancer concerns. 🚫
Triclosan: Classified as a pesticide (!) and can create carcinogenic chloroform gas when combined with water. Yikes. 🚫
Propylene Glycol: Found in high doses (up to 50%) in many deodorants, this chemical can harm your nervous system, heart, and liver over time. 🚫
TEA/DEA: Another chemical that can damage your nervous system and irritate skin with daily use. 🚫
Your body is meant to sweat- it’s a natural way to release toxins. So why risk it with harmful chemicals?

Option 2: Magnesium Oil Spray
If you’re short on time or prefer a quick fix, magnesium oil spray is a fantastic alternative.
What You’ll Need:
1/2 cup magnesium chloride flakes
1/2 cup purified or distilled water
How to Make It:
Combine the magnesium flakes and water in a small saucepan.
Heat gently, stirring until the flakes dissolve.
Let it cool and pour into a small glass spray bottle (a funnel may help).
Spray directly onto your armpits daily for an easy, chemical-free deodorant option. Want to see bonus benefits of the magnesium spray + this DIY, watch the video here! 👈🏼
